THE DINERS’ ENSEMBLE

by Philipp Weber & Daniel Costa

During my studies in 2010 I worked together with Philipp Weber on a musical project. We created table ware which makes music in order to provoke the diners to interact with each other.

Cutlery connected to the keyboard of a piano, plates that turn into singing bowls and coffee cups which ring simultaneously to the rhythm of sipping.
The diners become aware of their musical potential, which is evolving throughout the dinner and throughout the different courses. They get stimulated to make use of sound but also of silence, to experience expressive rhythm and the organic rhythm of our eating gestures. The guests clink their glasses, pitch the atmosphere and transform the dinner into a musical performance.

‘Diners’ Ensemble’ took place in an old textile factory in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
